Chemicals and materials supplier Solvay is preparing to launch a project at its Augusta, GA plant to boost the location’s capacity for Amodel polyphthalamide (PPA) resins by 15% and reduce its environmental impacts.

Sold by Solvay’s Materials Global Business Unit, Amodel PPA is used in the automotive industry to replace metal. The resins have applications in battery electric vehicles (BEVs), electric motors, power electronics, and battery technologies.

“Driven by the needs of our customers and society, Solvay is not only investing in additional capacity, but also in new breakthrough Amodel PPA resins for e-mobility and in sustainability at our manufacturing sites,” Brian Baleno, head of marketing, automotive for Solvay, said in a company release.

Additional capabilities at the Augusta site will enable Solvay to produce two new product ranges, Amodel PPA Supreme and Amodel PPA BIOS, that are geared toward the demands of the e-mobility industry.

The Augusta plant currently sources 100% of its electricity from renewable sources, and the location has cut its water consumption by 15%.
