The Queen beamed alongside Princess Anne as she went to visit an outdoor children's centre in Glasgow yesterday (Wednesday 30th June), which aims to encourage a happy and healthy community through access to green space.

The Children's Wood Project, a thriving community hub, welcomed her Majesty during her four-day visit to Scotland. As part of a volunteering session at the beekeeping area, the gleaming royals spoke with young people about the benefits of the Wood Project, before meeting local beekeepers who maintain the wood's buzzing hives.

"It was so lovely for the Queen to come and see us today and made us feel special," Beekeeper Kathleen Friend told Glasgow Live. "She famously knows a bit about bees and we had plenty to talk about. She was interested in the structure. I was worried about the uneven land but she took it all in her stride, in her royal blue outfit. She looked great."

Her Majesty and Princess Anne went on to meet children and teachers from East Park Primary School, before toasting delicious marshmallows outside. They were also gifted a little treat, as one young schoolboy, Jacob Wishart, presented the Queen with a jar of homemade honey.

The community centre was once an unloved patch of ground, but has been impressively transformed into a tree-covered meadow space where children grow tasty produce, unwind and enjoy outdoor lessons. During these uncertain times, it has become a lifeline for so many.

One student, Jay, asked the Queen why she was on a visit to Glasgow, to which the Queen replied: "Well, to meet you all of course!"

Emily Cutts, director of the Children's Wood project, lead the tour for the Queen, showing her around the various garden features. Speaking about her Majesty's visit, Emily said: "It was easy to show her around, the conversation was easy. She had a good sense of humour. She was commenting on the wildness often, and I said the reason we love this space as not manicured it means it perfect."
